George Gonzalez:
I think this is a very cool concept and like all of the different kinds of levels and love the model and art style. great vibe! I think that the scope might have pushed you guys a bit as you took on a lot but you made it work well with the time you had I do think polishing some the mechanics a bit more would make the game more fun to play.

Very interesting game idea and the visuals work really work together (color choice, map/level design, gameplay). The several levels and different game options are really fun and I really like the variety in being able to play different level types in one game. The UI is clear and the game mechanics and timings really add to the game feel. For possible revisions, you could implement some more strict game ideas from chess and maybe add more cool powerups/collectibles and abilities.

Justin Rivera: The concept and aesthetic of the game are super appealing! The models, levels, and coloring come together to create a game that is a pleasure to look at and play. I also like the feel of it, moving around the board as a chess piece. I just think that once you are attacked by enemies, it is very easy to become trapped. I got touched one time by an enemy and ended up being swarmed every time I spawned, so maybe some invincibility time after respawning would help with that

Ashley Liu: I love the colored chess concept! It's definitely challenging and I think implementing more chess based movements for the player and enemies would make the game better.

(1 edit)

Nathan Cantu: Like everyone's said, the game looks fantastic. The color choices are really good. The idea of a chess board with a navmesh is really smart. The button portion is very very finicky and I can't tell when I'm accidentally triggering another button or if it's on a timer. I think on some of the levels the camera is too zoomed in so its hard to see where the enemies are in relation to me to be able to plan where I need to move. Overall, the game looks great and good job

xiao ling

the layout and looks of the game was lovely! The way things were laid out aligned so well with the chess theme, having spikes coming out in patterns and such :3

i think perhaps in some levels implementing the movement in such a way where the player could only travel in in a straight path (similar to a queen's movement) would be cool :))

Remi Vaughan: This game simply looks spectacular. The models are all very nice and all fit together, the color choice is flawless, and the lighting really gives the game an afternoon-challenge kinda feel. I think the one thing I want to see most from any future development on this would be for things that can harm the player to be more well telegraphed; right now a lot of things you can only avoid if you know they are coming rather than by seeing them about to come and dodging, if that makes sense

Yilin Zhao: This game is fancy! And it's not an easy game. I really spent some time trying to pass all the levels. I really like how much you put into designing all the levels. Even though it's not easy, the level difficulty curve is fine. The player movement is smooth as well.  I can see all the improvements made after the first milestone. Great job!

Shaur Kumar: I like this game's aesthetics and ideas a lot. I wish more of the chess elements were incorporated into the game, but the spikes and red evil invading pieces is not a bad aesthetic. In terms of gameplay, the game is fun and relatively quick and straightforward to understand. The final boss level however is somehow both too simple and too difficult. At first encountering the boss, a lot of what is thrown at you feels like random attacks and impossible to dodge damage unlike anything you encountered in the game. You also cannot tell when he swaps into a new phase and what that phase will be until after you have died to every phase once basically. Once you have the timing memorized in your head however, it's a trivial fight. I think that final boss should have a bit more player controlled interaction and learning on the difficulty.

Heejin: I think the chess concept of this game is interesting. I was struggling in the second level where I needed to presss the buttons on the ground in order, cause it seems like it's not resetting once I pressed the wrong one. Love how you used all different chessmen as enemies. It was great and fun to play!

Sergey: Was interesting to play, needed a few skills to pick up for the next level. The movements and mechanics were ok. There was little uncertainty of choosing the right door. New levels could be about chess problems but with reality moves like horse jumping, etc. Overall, l liked the game. Was fun to play.

Very interesting game. I like the theme and everything. One thing you could do is make the movement mirror that of the queen (so diagonal and horizontal movements) instead of being able to move wherever. Instead of spikes, you could make modify the pawns to have a sword and have those move up and down.

Jack Liu: It is a well-made game and it requires some skills to pass the game. It has various obstacles which increase difficulty gradually when enter a new level and I tried many times to pass the whole game.  I also really like the UI on the corner on the canvas of player's health and keys, so people can know the number of their lives and keys.

Love how smooth the gameplay is. The models used fit the chess theme really well. The spikes also look cool. The counter for the keys in the UI is helpful for keeping track of how many the player currently has and how many they need.

Hah-Young Kim: I really like how the player movement reflects the movement of the Queen piece in chess. To expand on the chess theme a bit more, I think it would be cool to set your health to the number of chess pieces the player starts with, and each time you lose a life, a chess piece will appear on the side of the board to represent a captured piece.

Suning Yao: The style of the whole game is very uniform and creative. I was attracted by the design of the board at first glance. At the same time, the color scheme does not follow the traditional black and white of the board, but uses a new color scheme. I also liked the variety of obstacles.
